At a glance
Art and home decor sit at the meeting point of personal taste, retail habits, and the ever-present urge to make a room feel like yours. The figures below pull together public data on household furnishings spending, e-commerce, and visual-arts participation. They are useful context, not a forecast for any one shop or style.
Each number has a stable anchor, a named primary source, and the date it was reported, so it can be checked and cited without a treasure hunt.

U.S. e-commerce grew faster than total retail sales in the Census Bureau’s latest quarterly report. That does not make every category or every maker an overnight success, but it does reinforce a simple truth: a distinctive visual point of view can now travel well beyond a local gallery wall.
Household furnishings spending moved lower in 2024, which makes clarity and character more valuable, not less. When people do choose a piece for their home, the work has to earn its space. For people building rooms around mood, that is exactly where original art and expressive decor get interesting.
